Theme: Functional Forms

This piece provides the foundation for my future functional forms.

Media: Cardboard, cardstock, and acrylic paint (to emulate corrugated metal and glass)

Method: Handbuild

Process: Inspired by a twisted stack of napkins, I created an architectural model of a restaurant. I enhanced the levels by tapering from small to large, and vice versa— giving the building a diamond-like silhouette. Utilizing a complementary color palette, I contrasted the orange/brown “metal” with the blue “glass windows”- developing a rustic yet modern feel. The corner windows pronounce the lines and movement, guiding the viewers eye up the building as it twists.

Significance: As my first architectural model, I learned to use industry standard, 3/8ths scale. This project provides a solid foundation for my growing architectural skills.
